LEGISLATIVE REQUIREMENTS

In Terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act no 85 of 1993) the employer is responsible for providing a safe working environment, with regards to providing a safe working area, providing the correct safety equipment and the proper training to ensure all staff is covered in all safety aspects of the working environment.

In August 2000 the South African National Standards adopted the European standards for manufacturing and supply of all height related equipment. Any safety equipment used for working-at-height must conform to SANS EN standards.

In terms of the skills development act of no 97 of 1998 training must be done according to registered unit standards as offered by Accredited training providers.

All these legal requirements regarding the correct equipment and the relevant training standards will be met by Heightsafety Training Academy (Pty) Ltd

SANS 0333-2: 1999 Rope access, Training and Certification Procedure (Replaced by the new skill development rope access unit standards)
SANS 0333-3:1999 Inspection, Certification and Management Procedures for Equipment.
SANS 1833: 1999 Equipment for use in industrial rope access work

 

BRITISH STANDARDS (The reason for using the British standards as reference is that they are more regularly revised than the SANS standards)
BS 7985: 2002 Code of Practice for the use of rope access methods for industrial purposes.
BS7883: 2005 Code of practise for the design, selection,installation, use and maintenance of anchor devices conforming to BS EN 795.
